If you like art, music and supporting local businesses, First Friday with North Village Arts District is the event for you. Every first Friday of the month from 6-9PM, NVAD hosts a free “art crawl” where visitors can venture to different galleries, shops and businesses to enjoy art displays, live music, activities, snacks and so much more.
If you have never been to First Friday, we recommend you add it to your Downtown CoMo bucket list! Here, we will talk more about how to navigate your first “First Friday,” as well as what to expect when you get there.
How big is First Friday?
First Friday is held within a roughly 9-block square area one block north of Broadway. Park the car and enjoy a completely walkable, fun art-filled experience.
What should you bring?
The best part about First Friday? It’s free and open to the public! There is also free parking in lots and garages in the area! Explore hand-crafted goods like jewelry, baked goods, vintage pieces, and much more. This is a family-friendly event, and there will be entertainment that both adults and children can enjoy. To successfully explore this event all you need to bring is yourself, your family, and some enthusiasm for art!
Now, because you will be walking from place to place, weather conditions should be considered. If there’s rain in the forecast, we suggest you bring an umbrella to prepare accordingly. As long as you are comfortable, you are set to have a great time! The most important thing to bring, however, is openness and excitement to explore art and enjoy a cheerful ambiance where everyone gathers to support artistic expression.

Who should you bring?
This is a family-friendly event, so gather your family members (including the kids, if applicable) and friends to engage in the many activities it has to offer. You might even want to bring your significant other for a unique date night idea—bonus points for the first date!
We strongly encourage you to come for at least one of NVAD’s First Friday events—once you try it once, you’ll likely want to go again and again to experience different art and music the next time around! Art is all around us, waiting to be discovered and appreciated. First Fridays offer the perfect opportunity for visitors and residents of Columbia alike to come together and appreciate local artists, businesses and the vibrant North Village Arts District as a whole.
